For a second year, Alan Barnes and his octet have agreed to entertain and enlighten us about jazz, this time focusing on the instruments in the band and the all-important personalities that energise jazz music. This will be the World Premiere of Alan's new project.

Alan entitles the performance 'New Jazz Portraits'. It will feature 8 brand new charts, each being an affectionate portrait of a different member of the band. The pieces have all been written to bring out the strengths of these formidable and very individual stylists whilst also, perhaps, bringing out some lesser known parts of their musical characters.

Alan will also include some surprise musical portraits of other musicians who have been important to his career. As is usual and well understood in the jazz world, Alan's show will be peppered with anecdotes. Of course, swinging, straight ahead jazz will be the priority.

The all-star lineup consists of Bruce Adams on trumpet & flugelhorn; Mark Nightingale on trombone; Alan Barnes on saxes & clarinet; Robert Fowler on saxes & clarinet; Karen Sharp on saxes & clarinet; David Newton on piano; Simon Thorpe on bass and Clark Tracey on drums.
